Why I support MATES

Tuesday 7th Apr
I support Mates in Construction because I’ve seen what this industry can do to people when things start to build up and no one talks about it. Construction is a tough environment. The pressure is constant, and there’s always another deadline to meet. Over time, I’ve watched the mental health of people I work with slowly wear down. Good people who just keep showing up and pushing through, even when they’re struggling. I’ve also had my own battles, so I know how heavy it can feel and how easy it is to keep it to yourself.

That’s why this cause means so much to me.

Mental health doesn’t pick and choose. It affects everyone at some point, regardless of who you are or what you do. In our industry especially, there’s been this unspoken expectation to just get on with it. But that mindset is changing, and it needs to.

Mates in Construction is helping lead that change. It’s making it clear that sometimes the most important thing you can do isn’t about the job at all. It’s simply checking in on your mate.

Speak up when you need to. Take the time if things feel too much. And don’t underestimate how much a simple conversation can help.
