Breaking the silence around mental health in the construction industry

This April, I’m taking on the MATES Big Lap 2026 — walking, running and moving every day to raise funds for mental health and suicide prevention in the construction industry.

Here’s the reality…

Construction workers are some of the hardest working people in Australia. Long hours, physical strain, financial pressure, tight deadlines and the responsibility of providing for families is just part of the job.

But what often gets ignored is the mental load that comes with it.

Our industry has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. Too many tradies feel like they have to push through stress, anxiety and personal struggles without support because that’s “just how the industry works”.

It shouldn’t be.

Through my work supporting tradie businesses, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to look after the people behind the tools — not just the projects.

That’s why I’m stepping up for this challenge.

Every kilometre I complete is about raising awareness, starting conversations and supporting the incredible work MATES does to provide on-site support, training and crisis intervention for workers across Australia.

If the construction industry has ever supported you, built your home or helped your business, this is a chance to give back to the people who make it all happen.

Any donation, no matter the size, helps fund real support services that save lives.
